The founder of Creative Legals, Julie Condliffe, is a long-time resident having lived in Northamptonshire for nearly two decades and within Rushden since 2015. She is an award winning Solicitor and best selling author with a passion for property and specifically property auctions.
Julie was born and spent her formative years in Zimbabwe, where she faced many challenges, including homelessness. Unfortunately this was something that she faced again when she moved to the UK, at one point, with nowhere to turn, she was reduced to sleeping in a telephone box.
With hard work and a relentless drive Julie was able to turn her life around and has gone from homelessness to a millionaire property Investor/Solicitor. Julie is extremely passionate about helping people, and so when she noticed that there was no easily obtainable legal advice for people buying or selling at property auctions, she decided to set up Creative Legals - a first of its kind law firm that provides specialist advice.
The Creative Legals office is based at 121A High Street, Rushden, NN10 0NZ.
We would like to wish Julie and Creative Legals all the very best in their future success.

"All of the events I've had the privilege of attending over this fortnight were incredibly entertaining and interesting, there were so many highlights, so here's just a brief overview…
"Tree planting at South End Infants School to mark the Queen's Platinum jubilee, Rushden Rotary's Combined Youth Concert, a concert organised by the U3A Choir where I got the chance to join them for their last number (fortunately their voices drowned out my bad attempt), being part of the incredible QPJ Parade and Beacon Lighting event at Hall Park where we were honoured to have the Deputy Lord Lieutenant join us, a visit to the High Street for the Artisan Market organised by Happy Mondays and then my thoroughly packed fortnight came to an end with the eagerly anticipated Soap Box Derby where I received the superb role of being 'starter' of the race.
"It was an honour to attend all events, with the opportunity to meet residents, community groups and businesses alike, however my proudest moment of all was to read the Queen's Proclamation and light the beacon. This will probably never happen again in my time.
"Thank you to everyone who organised, attended and supported these events. What a fantastic way to start off my Mayorship."

Billy and Greg, two local men decided to reinvent the place. With tenants in accommodation above to make the project viable, they have completely revamped the interior with modern colours of greys blacks and silver predominate a very tasteful renovation.
There are now areas for pool, darts and a retro computer games machine, family seating areas and 1950s styled booths. The outside hasn't been left untouched either, housing a particularly nice seating area.
With 'real beer', several casked lagers and ciders that would suit most people, they also serve food. The menu has a simple 'build your own breakfast', with chips and a few other tasty things, but offers at certain times a Thai noodle box for something a little bit different!
Having met the team behind this venture and the pleasure of opening this lovely new watering hole, I really hope this is a success. If that success is measured on the hard work and effort put in, the 'New' King Edward will be with us for a long time!"

Mayorβs surprise visit for Pat and Derek Knightβs Blue Sapphire Wedding Anniversary
Pat and Derek Knight of Rushden celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary.
On Saturday 14th July 2021 the Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Melanie Coleman, surprised the anniversary couple at their home to congratulate them on reaching this fantastic milestone. And with thanks to their daughter Julie, we were able to share their beautiful and inspiring story with you all.
Pat (86) and Derek (88) have lived most of their married life in Norfolk, moved to Rushden in 2019 to be closer to their daughter and several of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The couple had a bit of a turbulent start to the beginning of their relationship as they were in fact cousins, they didn't grow up together as children and met as adults at Derek's father's funeral, but some family members had objections and so they agreed to separate and wait 3 years until Pat was 21 and could marry without permission.
They didn't see each other or have any contact for over 18 months, but both missed each other terribly. Finally, it was Pat's sister who contacted Derek and said they needed to be together, as apart they were both so unhappy.
Julie, the couple's daughter tells us, " I never tire of hearing what happened next…
"My Mum was a qualified hairdresser and looked out of the window one evening as they were closing up. She realised the man standing in the doorway opposite was my dad. She went over to him; he took her hand and they walked down by the canal. Almost the first words he said to her, after over 18 months apart, were, 'So, are you going to marry me?' to which she didn't hesitate to say 'Yes'."
It's all history from there as on the 14th of July 1956, Pat and Derek were married at St Mary's Church, Chessington in Surrey. As years went on the couple reconciled with Pat's parents who then in their later years, moved to Nolfolk to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
The couple went on to have 2 children, Julie, who was born in 1958 and and Kevin, born in 1961. Julie tells us that her parents have always pulled together as a team and provided a loving fun filled childhood for her and her brother, with Sunday always being 'family day', with days by the coast, stopping to cook breakfast in a layby, followed by a game of ball, using an old bat and the frying pan.
In 2018, Kevin sadly passed away, which was understandably devastating for the entire family. The Mayor spotted a little tribute to Kevin in the couple's garden, his old boots filled with flowers on display by the pond.
Pat and Derek worked together and ran their successful business for nearly 30 years, before retiring in 1997 and making more time to enjoy hobbies such as fundraising committees, craft shows, Derek playing in a local brass band in Norfolk well into his 70's and so much more. Julie commented, "They enjoy new challenges, learning different crafts or tackling DIY challenges (nearly always together)."
And As you'll see by the photos of the couple's stunning garden, over lockdown they have been working hard making it a beautiful haven.
The couple told the Mayor that they very much enjoy living in Rushden, and despite of lockdown, they have still tried to make the most of their new town by visiting a number of places in the local area and hope to get involved in local groups once the restrictions are lifted.
Although Pat and Derek are surrounded by family, 2 of their grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren live all the way up in Hull, but the couple explained to the Mayor that there have been some lovely video calls and they are looking forward to arranging a visit asap.
When the Mayor asked them what they thought the secret to a long and happy marriage was, Pat replied, "We were friends first and still are."
The Mayor made these comments about her visit, "it was a pleasure to meet such a lovely couple and be part of this special day, we welcome them with open arms to the Rushden community."
Thank you to Pat and Derek for letting us share your amazing milestone with the people of Rushden, we wish you all the very best!

Vicki, who has lived in Rushden all of her life, met Brian (originally from Bilston, Staffordshire) in 1969 at an 18+ group where Vicki was the Chairman. Brian moved to Rushden to be with Vicki and they were married at Rushden's St Mary's Church.
Brian's previous occupation was a printer at Chapmans in Wellingborough and Vicki, an admin assistant until they started a family and then she became a full time mum.
In Brian's younger years he was interested in cars and "chasing women" joked his daughter-in-law, Annaliese. He is now a keen photographer. When Vicki was younger she enjoyed cycling, social events and clubs, carnivals and organising dances at work. She now enjoys gardening and sewing.
Vicki and Brian have 3 children:- Julie, Steve (Married to Annaliese) and Neil (marrying Janine in August this year) and 7 grandchildren:- Ryan, Connor, Olivia, May, Jordan, Evie and Mia. The couple both love nothing better than to spend time with their family.
Mayor Coleman asked the couple the secret of a good marriage, Vicki replied jokingly, "trying not to murder each other" which made everyone chuckle. Vicki went on to say in a more heartfelt tone, "the main thing is having a good friendship with each other" and Brain agreed.
"When speaking to a representative of Rushden Town Council, the Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Melanie Coleman said, "Vicki and Brian are such a lovely couple and it's been an absolute pleasure to visit them."

On Thursday 3rd June 2021 Janet and Roy Presland of Rushden celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. On behalf of Rushden Town Council, the Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Melanie Coleman, visited the couple to congratulate them on their fantastic milestone and to discover a bit more about their story…
Roy, who has lived in Rushden all his life (except for a short time when he lived in Irthlingborough), met Janet (originally from Desborough) through their shared passion for cycling. They were both members of local cycling clubs and got to know each other through shared events.
The couple married at St Giles' Church, Desborough and their honeymoon was spent youth hostelling in Scotland. Janet moved to Rushden shortly after to be with her husband.
Roy was an electrical technical at the Central Electric Company for almost all his career and Janet was a pharmacist, something that she gave up when she had the children but later resumed on a part-time basis as a locum, helping out in local chemist shops.
The couple share three children, Andrew, who is a statistician in the civil service, Judith, a nurse at Kettering General Hospital. Sadly, their first child, David, had problems with his heart and died when only a couple of days old. They also have 1 grandson.
Roy and Janet enjoy cycling and walking (particularly in Wales and the Lake District), together with holidaying in North Norfolk. They have climbed all the Wainwrights and have a certificate to prove it. They continue to enjoy short walks, especially at Rushden Lakes. They are also interested in various types of history, such as industrial archaeology (mainly Roy) and family history (Janet). They have belonged to St Mary's Church, Rushden for over 50 years.
The couple told the Mayor that they will be celebrating their anniversary with a nice pub meal with the family and said they were overwhelmed with cards and flowers from friends, family, neighbours and even their local supermarket.

Mayor visits Jack and Elsie Smith on their Platinum
Wedding Anniversary

Reaching a Platinum Wedding Anniversary is statistically a one in a million chance and so Rushden Town Council, along with the Town Mayor, Cllr Melanie Coleman, and the Mayor's Consort, Cllr David Coleman, an anniversary to remember was organised!
As well as being serenaded by an emotional doorstep performance of Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again' performed by 'The Candy Bars' singer Odette, the couple were treated to a Mrs B's Sandwich Emporium home delivery afternoon tea, a special basket of flowers courtesy of the Mayor, a fantastic balloon display courtesy of The Original Factory Shop and Rushden Town Council gifted them with a personalised card which featured the happy couple on their wedding day and a decorated cake. View Video here
Mayor Melanie and the Mayor's Consort, David spent the afternoon inside the couple's garden to find out about their 72 year love story…
Elsie, 92, originally from Hargrave and Rushden-born Jack, 96, have lived in their Rushden home for 68 years. They met at a dance at the Windmill Hall in Rushden. Jack cheekily commented to the Mayor that when he saw Elsie he 'didn't stand a chance.'
After a two-year courtship, the couple married at Higham Ferrers Methodist Church on May 12, 1951.
Jack entertained the Mayor and Consort with stories about his time in service for the Navy, where he was on Radar as a member of destroyer HMS Valorous, protecting convoys on the Atlantic and North Sea.
In their younger years, Jack and Elsie enjoyed dancing and told the Mayor that they have travelled all over London to different dances.
The couple spoke fondly about their shared love of the natural world, how they loved the countryside with trips to Yorkshire, birdwatching and looking at wildflowers.
Jack retired at 60 from his job in the leather industry because of a health scare, Elsie finished work as a floor walker in a shoe factory which gave them more time for their hobbies.
Their Son, Martyn and grandchildren, Annalena and Ella relocated to Germany. Jake, their oldest grandchild remained in the UK with sons Rufus and Felix. The couple spoke fondly of their family, how proud they are of them all and how it's been a really difficult time not being able to see them due to the restrictions but how their son phones them every day.
Over the last year, Jack and Elsie have barley left their home on High Street South due to Covid restrictions and health matters, but explained to the Mayor that they have wonderful neighbours and Jack commented that, "the staff at Sainsbury's Local have been amazing and real lifesavers."
When asked what the secret was to a long and happy marriage, Jack told the Mayor "it's because we are interested in the same sort of things, we aren't the sort who like to sit on the sand, we like to go up on the hills."
"We share the love of bird watching, my kind is the feathered kind, and Jack? well once a sailor always a sailor" Elsie jokingly commented.
The Mayor made these comments about her afternoon with the couple, "I was very privileged to be able to share a little 'socially distanced' time with such a lovely couple.
"70 years is an amazing achievement, but when you see them together you can see why... they are a wonderful team."
From all of us here at Rushden Town Council, we'd like to wish this inspirational and charming couple a very happy 70th anniversary and thank them for letting us share their day and story with the people of Rushden.

Mayor visits Valerie and Maurice Marsh on their Diamond Wedding Anniversary
On Saturday 3rd April 2021 Valerie and Maurice Marsh of Rushden celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. On behalf of Rushden Town Council the Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Melanie Coleman, visited the couple to congratulate them on their fantastic milestone and to discover a bit more about their story…
Valerie and Maurice met in Bedford whilst working at Robinsons Rentals, in different departments. Maurice asked Valerie out on her 17th Birthday by giving her a small box of chocolates. Apparently the first date didn't go too smoothly… Maurice was driving that day for the company and ran out of petrol, unfortunately there was a big shortage of petrol at that time and so he had to wait for someone to rescue him. Valerie finished work and waited 10 minutes, but as Maurice was late, she decided to go home.
According to their daughter Carolyn, the couple's relationship is definitely a credit to her Dad's persistence, with a second attempt at a date being much more successful and gradually friendship and romance blossomed and the couple were married on 3rd April 1961 at St Mary the Virgin Church, Goldington in Bedford. Valerie, 81, previously a local government officer and Maurice, 86, a previous motor vehicle technician, moved to Rushden in August 1964 and have lived there ever since. The couple share two daughters, Carolyn and Susan. Carolyn lived overseas for many years but is now back in Rushden and Susan lives in Higham. They have the pleasure of their two granddaughters and two great grandchildren who live in Rushden and their grandson who lives in Edinburgh. The pair have always loved travel. They bought a tent and in 1970 the family made their first camping trip abroad. Everything, including food was packed into the mini made by Maurice and the first destination was Italy. Carolyn and Susan had to sit on top of the food and bedding. Every year a trip was made to another new exotic warm destination including Turkey and Morocco… Gradually the tent was replaced by motor caravans. Until recently they still enjoyed driving down to Spain and hope to have some motor caravan holidays in UK later this year.
They also enjoy walking and have recently enjoyed local socially distanced walks around Hall Park. The couple told the Mayor that they will be celebrating this big anniversary with a celebratory garden lunch with their daughters and their partners. Speaking to a representative from Rushden Town Council, Carolyn, the couple's daughter, said this of her parents, "Mum and Dad are the best example you could hope for of marriage to their children and grandchildren. They have always been the best of friends and use determination and ingenuity to ensure they make the best of any situation." When asked what the secret was to a long and happy marriage, Valarie told the Mayor, "It's friends first and we do everything together." We still go caravanning and have had a wonderful life, travelling." When speaking to a representative of Rushden Town Council, Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Melanie Coleman said, "Valerie and Maurice Marsh are such a lovely couple, full of life and enthusiasm and it's been an absolute pleasure to visit them." Thank you to Valerie and Maurice for letting us share your amazing milestone with the people of Rushden, we wish you all the very best!

Wednesday 31st March 2021 marked a historic moment for Rushden, as East Northamptonshire Council handed the former Rushden Urban District Council chains to Rushden Town Council, to be retained as part of the town's civic history.

According to her neighbour, she is a well-known face down the high street as she goes down and supports the local shops on a daily basis, enjoying chatting to many along the way!
To help them celebrate their Golden wedding anniversary, Phil and Wendy's neighbours (and friends), the Hales' created an afternoon tea in the garden, decorated with flowers and balloons and with a gazeebo and heater.
When asked by the Mayor what the secret was to a long and happy marriage, Wendy said, "it's about give and take" and Philip answered, "to take care of each other."
The Mayor, Cllr Mrs Melanie Coleman, made these comments about the Underwood's story, "it is so romantic, engaged at Easter, married at Christmas, it was lovely to be a tiny part in their special day."
Thank you to Philip and Wendy for letting us share your amazing milestone with the people of Rushden, we wish you all the very best!

Mayor visits Angela and Colin West on their Golden
Wedding Anniversary
On Wednesday 7th October 2020 Angela & Colin West of Rushden, celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. On behalf of Rushden Town Council the Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Melanie Coleman, and the Mayor's Consort, Cllr David Coleman, gave the couple a socially distanced visit in their beautiful garden, to congratulate them on a fantastic fifty year milestone and to discover a bit more about the couple's story...
Angela and Colin told the Mayor how they met at a school in Nottingham and grew up in the same town. On Angela's' 14th Birthday, Colin took Angela on a date to the cinema to watch 'From Russia with Love', and this is where their beautiful, strong and long lasting relationship began. The couple married in in Nottinghamshire, but Colin's career as an Engineer and Draftsman (working for the likes of Rolls Royce, Crossland Fitters and Lotus Cars) saw the couple relocate to Norfolk, where they brought up their 2 children, Alan and Alison and resided there for almost 40 years.
Very sadly in 2005, the couple suffered the loss of their son due to an ongoing health condition. Angela described to the Mayor of how their family really struggled through this devastating time, but how they really stuck together and battled though as a strong family. As they told the Mayor endearing stories about their son, it was lovely to see that Alan lives on in their memories and clearly still brings them joy. Like the words inscribed on a little memorial plaque that pops out of one of their garden flower beds says, "Forever in our memories, forever in our hearts."
July of last year saw Angela and Colin relocate from Nolfolk to Rushden to be closer to their daughter and two granddaughters. Angela commented, "we dote upon our grandchildren, they are our life, we love seeing them, it's been hard with the current circumstances but we make the most of it and love every minute of it."
Colin chatted to the Mayor's consort, Cllr David Coleman, about the current times and praised Northamptonshire and the local area, explaining that he thoroughly enjoyed discovering the Nene Valley on his bicycle throughout lockdown.
The couple planned on visiting Jersey for their anniversary, however due to lockdown they decided again and instead celebrated in Nottingham with family and friends for a socially distanced Sunday lunch.
When asked what the secret was to a long and happy marriage, Angela laughed and said, "it's better the devil you know." However, according to Colin, Angela is a fantastic cook and said "I could never give up her cake."
The Mayor said, "During these strange times it was a pleasure to meet Angela and Colin, to congratulate them on their special Anniversary and wish them many more."

They were married in Scarborough in 1960 and moved to Kettering in 1968 where John worked for Shepherds Consultants. In 1994 they then moved to Rushden and have lived here ever since. The couple have 2 children who live in Northamptonshire and who they enjoy seeing often. Betty, still a keen knitting enthusiast, talked fondly of working for the yarn shop 'Play Mates' and John, a big Darby FC supporter, spoke of his football refereeing days.
The couple told the Mayor that they were celebrating their anniversary with a nice slice of cake "we've bought an extra cake so we can cut it up and share it out amongst our wonderful neighbours." They went on to explain how great their neighbours have been throughout the pandemic and how supportive everyone has been.
When asked what the secret was to a long and happy marriage, John laughed and jokingly said, "do as your told." But joking aside, it was clear to see the admiration the couple had for each other and the beautiful life they have shared.
Thank you to John and Betty for letting us share your amazing milestone with the people of Rushden, we wish you all the very best!
